In this interview Jolie Root discusses the epidemic of lung and respiratory issues that affect millions of Americans. Respiratory issues range from coughs due to colds, to seasonal allergies, to asthma and then chronic and debilitating illness. The contributing factors can be multi-faceted and complex. Many people struggle trying to understand their challenges, looking to find healing and relief.

We do not make medical claims for nutritional products*. We may discuss scientific and clinical studies that look at nutrients and their effects on human health. Such studies do not make nutrients drugs. Rather they reveal the valuable benefits for health provided by nutrients.

Jolie also outlines some of the most important nutrients that support lung health and what are reasonable dosages. This is an excellent example of how interested consumers can support their body’s nutritional needs for a specific health issue, in this case lung health.

Please consider the following as you develop your nutritional program. Context is critical to understanding.

  • Nutrition is not medical treatment. Doctors treat disease often prescribing drugs. Drugs are not nutrients and nutrients are not drugs. Do not confuse them. Drugs treat disease, nutrients nourish the body. For all medical treatments see your health care provider. Medical treatment does not negate the need to be well-nourished; rather it intensifies the importance.
Mediterranean Diet
  • A good nutritional foundation is required. Supplements do not replace the need for good food. A nutritious well-balanced diet is what sets the stage for good health. A poorly nourished person does not have a good foundation for long term good health. Additionally you need to reduce and avoid poor quality food in favor of better food choices. Think the Mediterranean diet as a good example. Jolie and I discussed the Mediterranean diet in this past interview.
Omega-3

  • You must correct the omega-3/omega-6 imbalance. This is of primary importance because this is a foundational nutritional need for everyone. You cannot have a healthy inflammatory system when these essential fats are out of balance. Too little omega-3 and way too much omega-6 is involved with inflammation. You must correct this or you will be less successful in your search for health. Nothing else can solve this nutritional problem. You must adopt a healthy fat strategy. Do not underestimate the importance, the right fats are critical.. Listen to our interview on omega-3. It was the first interview I did with Jolie for a reason.
  • Think long term. These are the habits of a lifetime for long term better health. No matter your results in the short term. You must persist in your pursuit of better health.
  • Target your nutrients to support your specific needs.

For lungs health Jolie recommends the following nutrients: NOTE: Carlson Cod Liver Oil is a great tasting way to get these first three nutrients.

  • Vitamin A – 10,000 to 25,000 iu. Sometimes more is used by nutritional doctors. This is retinol form of vitamin A, not beta-carotene.
  • Vitamin D – 5000 iu per day. Get a Vitamin D test and determine your optimal dose by knowing what your levels are. Seek a blood level of 40 to 60 Nano grams per milliliter. This is reveal by the blood test.
  • Omega-3 – See above. Get an omega-3 blood test to help assess your fatty acid status. Highly recommended.
  • NAC – N Acetylcysteine. This is a powerful antioxidant that supports liver and lung health and aids in the production of glutathione.

There are many additional vitamins, minerals, nutraceuticals, and herbs to consider. The more you know, the better choices you make. Better choices lead to better outcomes.

The concept for these and other nutrients is simple but profound. It is the body that does the healing, maintenance, and repair of the body. Your body uses many nutrients in 1000’s of ways to maintain life. A body that is deficient in essential nutrients cannot function optimally. Supplementation is how we provide concentrated nutritional compounds that the body can use to repair.

Good question. How do consumers have trust in any product in today’s marketplace?
It is my experience that most consumers don’t know how to evaluate companies or the products they make. Our mission is to examine good companies and articulate through interviews what are the standards that each company sets when they manufacture products. I believe that good companies do exceptional things that set them apart in an industry that is filled with questionable companies. Good companies that make exceptional products deserve to be recognized. With over 45 years in the nutritional products industry I understand very well the differences that set good companies apart from the rest.
Our interviews are designed to explore those distinctions. I encourage consumers to hold every company to higher standards and we do that as well for the companies that become sponsors of HealthQuestPodcast.com. People trust HealthQuestPodcast.com because we teach them to make distinctions in the marketplace and we show them in each interview how those distinctions are evident in the companies and products we examine.
We don’t push brands and we don’t sell product. We don’t have affiliate marketing and we don’t link to any selling sites. We do not benefit from the sales of any products we discuss. We do not allow any company to participate that does not meet our own criteria and standards.
We examine the distinctions and let consumers judge for themselves whether these companies are worthy of their trust and dollars. Trust is created when consumers understand the distinctions between companies and products. It is created with experience. It is created when trusted resources like HealthQuestPodcast.com brings understandable, credible, reliable and accurate content that consumers can evaluate.
It is not whether we like them or they like us, rather is the information correct and useful. I happen to like companies that rise to the top. Good companies like us because we tell their story through the interviews and written content.
