The incredible anti-microbial effects of Brazilian Red Propolis
This is our first exploration of bee propolis. I have been aware of propolis for decades. We have used it in my home for immune support. However it is just in the past several years that I have learned of the unique benefits of Brazilian Red Propolis. Brazil is one of the world’s richest sources of propolis. There are numerous types of propolis, such as green and brown and red. There are more types that are known but not fully studied.
In this interview with Jose Luiz “J.L.” Paes-Leme, we will discuss the origins and value of Brazilian propolis. J.L. is the founder and CEO of NaturaNectar. NaturaNectar is the company that has brought these unique propolis products to the US market. We’ll discuss the unique properties of the Brazilian red, green and brown propolis.
Just like any other agricultural product, the value and chemical makeup of natural products varies from where it is grown and the care that goes into the harvest and production of nutritional products. The effectiveness depends so very much on these and other important distinctions.
What is Propolis?
“Propolis or bee glue is a resinous mixture that honeybees produce by mixing saliva and beeswax with exudate gathered from tree buds, sap flows, or other botanical sources. It is used as a sealant for unwanted open spaces in the hive. Propolis is used for small gaps (approximately 6 millimeters (0.24 in) or less), while larger spaces are usually filled with beeswax. Its color varies depending on its botanical source, with dark brown as the most common. Propolis is sticky at and above 20 °C (68 °F), while at lower temperatures, it becomes hard and brittle.
While foraging, worker bees primarily harvest pollen and nectar, while also collecting water and tree resin necessary for the production of propolis. The chemical composition and nature of propolis depend on environmental conditions and harvested resources.” Excerpt from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The following benefits are those that have been articulated in the rapidly emerging science. The fact that propolis has been studied for specific benefits in “diseases” does not make propolis a drug. Propolis is a nutrient found in nature. Drugs are not nutrients and nutrients are not drugs. Drugs treat disease. Nutrients nourish your body; the body’s natural processes do the magic. The benefits discussed are not to be construed as medical claims. Rather scientific studies should be construed as revealing the powerful health benefits of the nutrients involved. Nutrients support the normal function and structure of the body.
The nutritional benefits of propolis have been extensively studied and many of those studies are reported on PubMed. At the time of this interview there are 4307 studies on “propolis” and 1873 studies on “red propolis”. Below are some of the benefits that are articulated in the studies. Here is a link to one study that reviewed the benefits of honey, propolis and royal jelly.
What are the benefits show in the studies?
Canker Sores*
Cold sores – improve healing time*
Improve blood sugar control*
Genital herpes – lesions heal faster*
Giadiasis –works better than medication*
Improves minor burns*
Improves mouth sores and inflammation*
Improves thrush*
Improves gum disease*
Improves athlete’s foot*
Improves upper respiratory tract infections*
Vaginal swelling*
If you have interest in following the science search PubMed for your specific concerns and/or specific nutrients. You can learn a lot by previewing the search results. Suffice to say the number of studies continues to grow at a rapid rate. This is a great indicator that propolis is an important nutritional product.
NaturaNectar Brazilian Bee Propolis
There is some very interesting content on the NaturaNectar website. I have advised my listeners to look deep into the companies that make the products. Find a good company is the best way to find good products. The links below will give you will lead to some of the most interesting information.
The timeline for the company goes back to Sven Salomon, a biochemist in Denmark who during his life developed a unique and efficient method to extract the best of bee propolis using only purified water as extraction solvent
Today, NaturaNectar develops in-class bee propolis supplements and ingredients from raw materials harvested in Brazil. The fifth largest country of the world is widely recognized by its vast biodiversity and favorable climate.
Propolis Research Center (PRC) – The partnership with PRC gave NaturaNectar the exclusive Green Extraction™ process, and created the largest library of scientific work on bee propolis ever seen.
Since 2013 NaturaNectar has worked with SERGIPE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY allowing NaturaNectar and PhenolicFactory to continue to identify and measure existing and new compounds in each type of Brazilian propolis used in NaturaNectar products.
These are just a few of the reasons that you should consider this type and brand of Brazilian propolis. NaturaNectar is exactly the kind of company you can trust to bring you best in class products. Their products have won numerous awards reflecting their exceptional benefits and expertise.
