Why is it that we have such a problem with obesity? Why don’t we understand more about how to fix this problem? There seems to be no shortage of diets and weight loss programs. What seems to be missing is a natural way to put the body back in order that can be sustained and allow one to enjoy life and lead to healthy weight. Many people are desperate to find a solution. It is critical that this process begin with an attempt to understand the factors that are important in each case. Everyone is unique and everyone usually has a number of issues that need to be addressed in order for weight loss to be achieved and sustained. It is my assertion that a person will be better off by seeking to improve health than chasing weight loss goals. Seek to eat a more healthful diet. Seek to avoid foods that are high calorie and low nutrition. Exercise more often. These are lifestyle changes that must be in place if you want to have long term success. Do this stuff first. Then focus on a healthy weight loss strategy. The question then becomes “What is a healthy weight loss strategy?”

I don’t usually focus on weight loss products because it is difficult to find products with good clinical science. While supplements are critical for health and are important during weight loss, I think that there are few supplements that will lead to long term sustainable weight loss. There is an exception and that is PGX fiber. In this interview I will discuss sustainable weight loss with Dr. Michael Lyon. Dr. Lyon is an obesity expert. His focus in research and clinical practice is on the treatment of obesity, human appetite regulation, diabetes prevention and the nutritional management of chronic disease. He has designed and conducted numerous clinical trials and is currently the Research Director for the Canadian Center for Functional Medicine. As you will learn in this interview, he understands the challenges of obesity and weight loss.

Weight_LossDr. Lyon has developed 4 key principles that are the foundation of his weight loss protocols. The goal is to maintain satiety, the feeling of satisfaction and fullness that regulates the desire to eat.

  1. Eat for volume. Eat foods that fill you up and are low in calories, high in fiber and low on the glycemic scale. Reduce carbs and avoid refined foods.
  2. Eat protein. Especially for breakfast and then throughout the day.
  3. Eat mindfully. Think about the food you eat. Consider portions and types of food. Eat more slowly.
  4. Control blood sugar. Dr. Lyon uses and recommends PGX fiber. PGX is a unique fiber that will do three things for you. It will help to fill you up. It will help to normalize blood sugar and it will provide the fiber for normal bowel function. It is this unique PGX fiber that has become a critical key part of his successful weight loss program.

I have a previous interview with Dr. Michael Murray on PGX. Dr. Lyon and Dr. Murray collaborated on the book Hunger Free Forever. CLICK HERE to listen to that interview with Dr. Murray.
