Cordyceps may additionally provide kidney, immune and respiratory support.*
One of the things that amazes me as I consider the historical genesis of natural medicines, is how cultures across time discovered and refined the benefits of natural products. Every culture throughout history has developed a medical system that is empirical and sophisticated. It is only in the past century or so that we have the scientific method to seek deeper understanding of the nature and benefits of these medical systems. How did they come to discover and utilize something like Cordyceps, that we can now buy and use? We rarely consider how we got to where we are today with access to amazing products from around the world.
We live in a golden age for natural products. We are able to benefit from products from around the world and never give it a second thought. Fish oil from Norway, Turmeric from India, Mushrooms from Japan are all examples of many products that have come to us because of their historical usage and modern science and manufacturing. We all have nearly unlimited access to the best nutritional products. There is no shortage of good products and good information.
At the same time there is no shortage of poor quality, adulterated, mislabeled products that are sold with outrageous and/or illegal claims. One of my primary goals for HealthQuestPodcast.com is to feature the best companies, best practices and the best products that I have discovered over many years. I believe that best in class companies deserve recognition. Another important goal is to help consumers understand distinctions in the marketplace. When consumers have accurate, credible and reliable information they will make better choices. Better choices lead to better outcomes. As always, the best products are the ones that work for you.
In this interview with Mark Kaylor, we will discuss Cordyceps. Cordyceps is very interesting as it is a fungus that grows on the head of a caterpillar. (Who discovers these things?) Mark discusses the benefits of Cordyceps from both the historical story as well as current scientific research. Remember that we are discussing the nutritional benefits of Cordyceps. Our discussion of scientific research does not constitute a medical claim. (See my Google Scholar search results below.)
Mark has defined the four “R”s of benefits for nutritional mushrooms.
Nutritional products do not treat disease. They are not drugs. Nutrients nourish the body. Results are achieved through the body’s own innate ability to utilize nutrients to facilitate the four “R”s mentioned. This is the beauty of nature and the power of nutrition.
Cordyceps (cordyceps sinensis)
“Found in pristine high altitude locations in Nepal and China, Cordyceps mushrooms are used in China to promote stamina, endurance and sex drive.* Cordyceps has gained much attention in the West since the early 1990’s, when Chinese track athletes shattered world records and revealed that Cordyceps was an important part of their training regimen. Since that time Cordyceps has been embraced by a growing number of endurance athletes worldwide. Cordyceps was traditionally reputed as a precious longevity-supporting herb, but now considered a mushroom, is widely recognized for its energy and cardio support.*” Source Mushroom Wisdom.
Mark also discusses the science and benefits of Cordyceps for the following concerns:
- Kidney Support*
- Immune Support*
- Sexual Support*
- Energy Support*
- Respiratory Support*
Super Cordyceps
Super Cordyceps uses a concentrated hot water extract of the mycelium cultivated with the most-researched Cs-4 strain. This is important information. It reveals the extraction method, what part of the Cordyceps is used AND perhaps most important that it is an identifiable researched strain. This is an example of distinctions that matter. If you want the benefits shown in the science, you always want to choose products that are based on the science.

These are the results returned by Google Scholar in my recent search. This is an excellent resource for exploring the amount of science that exists. Use it whenever you want to see if something has been well-studied. Here are the search terms I used and the results.
- Cordyceps (all time) = 62,900 results
- Cordyceps (since 2019) = 3,370 results
- Cordyceps (since 2019) + immune = 1,310 results
- Cordyceps (since 2019) + energy = 1,160 results
- Cordyceps (since 2019) + kidney =568 results
- Cordyceps (since 2019) + respiratory = 390 results
- Cordyceps (since 2019) + sexual = 380 results
This is a significant amount of scientific inquiry. The body of scientific research provides a strong foundation for confidence.
