Exploring how beta glucan supports your immune system.
In this interview with Jay Hyeok, we will consider the benefits of beta glucan for its role in for immune support. Many people are looking for ways to enhance immune function. What does that mean? The immune system is complex and there are many, many ways to influence immune function. How do you know which products are likely to be helpful for you in particular? How do you find products that have certified clinical efficacy? That’s our exploration in this interview.
As with most nutrients, there are distinctions that must be understood in order choose the best product. Here are some of the issues we will explore in this interview.
- There are types of beta glucan. There is 1,3 D form which is more active than the 1,6 D form.
- There are numerous sources for beta glucan such as bacteria, yeast, mushrooms and some grains.
- What does that science reveal about the benefits to human health?
There are many manufacturers of the raw material beta glucan that supplement companies use in their products. This is where the most important distinction comes into play. As a consumer you may find this difficult to discover.
What form of raw material beta glucan do they use? Does the supplement manufacturer use a trademarked, branded, clinically studied form of beta glucan? Does it contain a clinically significant dosage?
In this interview we are going to answer these questions for one specific brand of beta glucan, BetaImmuneShield™ , from one specific manufacturer, Vesta Ingredients. It is always important to remember that each patented and/or trademarked product is unique. It is the specific product that we explore and it is the distinctions that make the difference. Beta glucan is most effective when taken as a daily supplement.

BetaImmuneShield™ Benefits White Paper
Beta 1,3 D Glucan is considered as part of the family of Beta Glucans which support the immune system. Beta Glucans also support the ability to ward off pathogens and to alleviate allergic reactions, without an auto-immune response from over-stimulation. Beta Glucans have been recommended to people whose body defenses have been weakened by disease conditions, physical and emotional stress, or by prophylactic treatments
BetaImmuneShield™ provides nutritional immune support through the related mechanisms below.
- Priming key immune cells
- Promotion of cell signaling
- Intracellular phagocytosis
- Supports the growth of healthy gut bacteria
Beta glucan increases the level of antibodies in your body.
Mechanism of Action for Immunity
BetaImmuneShield™ provides effective support to the immune system and macrophages. The abundance of macrophages in the immune cell population is also supported by Beta 1,3 D Glucan. Once macrophages become activated they remove pathogens and foreign invaders. In addition, BetaImmuneShield™ provides all-natural support for the immune system vs. a non-natural stimulant or modifier. The immunity support by Beta 1,3 D Glucan results in a comprehensive, efficient, and specific immune system response.
Macrophages are the natural and ubiquitous sentries that are already present in our immune system. BetaImmuneShield™ activates the macrophages with no other side effects or unneeded stimulants. Immune system support by Beta 1,3 D Glucan triggers the macrophages to help remove alien substances and toxins. The cellular defenses are activated resulting in a favorable immunomodulation to help the body to recognize and eliminate foreign substances. BetaImmuneShield™ provides immune system support for prevention of infection.
Non-Inflammatory
The profound function of BetaImmuneShield™ also suppresses allergic responses and unnecessary autoimmune reactions. The non-inflammatory mechanism is a result of the specific immune system response of the Beta 1,3 D Glucan (Richter et al., 2018). The response is a targeted yet comprehensive and efficient immune system activation.
Adaptive Immunity Plus Innate Immunity
The immune system response to beta glucan includes both adaptive immunity plus innate immunity. The immune system response is described below. The beta glucan is consumed and taken into the body through the gut. Beta glucan in the gut triggers the immune cells called macrophages. The macrophages then travel to all other parts of the body.
The macrophages also trigger other immune cells and cause the release of chemical immune signals and immune system communication. The combination of immune-cell activation and immune system communication results in a rapid and effective response to remove foreign invaders and pathogens. End excerpt.
