SAMe is one of most effective nutrients for mood, depression and joint health
VIP (Very Important Podcast): This is a previous interview with Dr. Parris Kidd on SAMe. Dr. Kidd has been on the forefront of brain science for over 3 decades.
In this interview, Dr. Parris Kidd discusses the nutritional benefits of SAMe (S-Adenosyl Methionine). SAMe has shown clinical benefits for mood and depression, joint health and liver support. “SAMe is an ortho nutrient and one of the most intensively researched of all the natural brain enhancers. SAMe has an extended positive record of proven benefits for the brain, as well for the liver, digestive system, and joints. SAMe’s exceptional benefits are related to its very high energy content and unique molecular structure.” (Kidd,PhD, Parris. Natural Brain Enhancers)
A recent editorial in the American Journal of Psychiatry (2010;167:889-91) stated that SAMe was “clinically meaningful” and “quite respectable,” that it was well tolerated, and also that demonstration of this new agent for mood management is “exciting news.” This is a very important nutrient for people who struggle with mood issues. If you are on medication for mood disorders please consult with your doctor about using SAMe. SAMe seems to be safe and well tolerated even for people on medications. It is important to consider that in order to have the best brain health, you need to supply your body with the nutrients known to support brain health. Medications can never provide the missing nutrients your brain needs. At least you need to consider and discover whether and to what degree nutrients can support your brain function and support.

Excerpt from Psychiatric News, published by the American Psychiatric Association. Expert’s Corner: When Should SAMe Be Considered for Major Depression? Anup Sharma, M.D., Ph.D., David Mischoulon, M.D., Ph.D.Published Online:21 Jul 2017, https://doi.org/10.1176/appi.pn.2017.pp7b3
“A seminal meta-analysis commissioned by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality found that SAMe monotherapy was more effective than placebo and comparable to tricyclic antidepressants in treating depressive symptoms. A recent meta-analysis examining adjunctive nutraceuticals for depression demonstrated positive results for SAMe. While additional studies are needed, SAMe appears to be safe and efficacious both as a primary and add-on treatment for major depressive disorder (MDD).”
For more clinical studies go to Scholar.Google.com and/or PubMed.
Dr. Kidd also discusses SAMe’s benefits for joint health and as one of the premier liver support nutrients. SAMe is one of the lesser known nutrients, which is surprising given it’s powerful and clinically significant benefits.
You should always look for SAMe in blister packaging as it is sensitive to moisture.
