CBD and the microbiome are intricately linked.

In this interview Miles Sarill discusses the latest science regarding CBD and gut health. It should come as no surprise that CBD can exert an influence throughout the body. Wherever there are CBD receptors, we should expect to see effect and influence.

We are coming to appreciate the profound influence of the gut microbiome to health throughout the body. We have discussed this many times over the years. While we understand that the gut microbiome is important, we have much yet to learn. In this interview Miles discusses the science of CBD and the gut microbiome and specifically one bacteria called Akkermansia muciniphila.

Miles guides us through a discussion of the interconnectedness of the various aspects of human gut health as it pertains to the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) and CBD. There is a powerful synergy that exists and Miles articulates that synergy.

CBD Science

A common complaint against CBD is that there are not enough studies. Some may conclude that studies do not exist. This is simply not true. There are thousands of studies and I will show you how to find them. But first this important disclaimer:

Drugs are not nutrients and nutrients are not drugs. Do not confuse the two. Drugs treat disease, nutrients nourish the body. Proper nutrition allows the body to function more normally, including maintenance and repair (healing). When we discuss studies with nutrients this does not constitute a drug claim. Rather it reveals the important nutritional benefits of the nutrient in question.

CV Sciences Study

Miles also discusses the recent double-blind placebo based study on +PlusCBD™ Oil by CV Sciences formula. This was a six week trial using 15 mg of CBD as found in the Gold formula.

A controlled clinical study has demonstrated its product can improve sleep, help reduce appetite, and enhance quality of life in humans. The groundbreaking study is the first-ever of its type, proving that high-quality, hemp CBD oil benefits human health.

Using a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind design, 65 overweight but otherwise healthy men and women ingested either one +PlusCBD™ Oil softgel or a placebo containing olive oil every day for six weeks. Subjects followed their normal diet and a routine of low intensity physical activity. After six weeks of supplementation, the study found +PlusCBD™ Oil supplementation can improve self-reported measures of sleep, quality of life and reduce appetite, while demonstrating no adverse effects on standard biomarkers of safety.

The study was conducted by The Center for Applied Health Sciences (CAHS). CAHS is an industry-leading multidisciplinary Contract Research Organization capable of designing and executing phase I-IV clinical trials within the dietary supplement, pharmaceutical, functional food and medical food industries.

“Collectively, these seminal findings in healthy subjects demonstrate that PlusCBD™ Oil supplementation can improve measures of sleep, reduce appetite, and enhance quality of life,” said Hector Lopez, MD, CMO, and co-founder of CAHS. “This study is an important contribution for all stakeholders, as it represents the first randomized clinical trial that we are aware of regarding the safety and efficacy of multi-constituent hemp CBD extract in healthy human subjects, and we hope it will serve as a template for further research into the many potential benefits of this fascinating compound.” Source: GlobeNewsWire.com

Google Scholar

Google Scholar is my new favorite search tool for research. Here are my results when preparing for this podcast. Search results:

Cannabidiol all time = 48,700
Cannabidiol in 2019 = 4,340
Cannabidiol in 2019 + stress = 2320
Cannabidiol in 2019 + immune = 1780
Cannabidiol in 2019 + intestinal = 713
Cannabidiol in 2019 + microbiome = 157
Cannabidiol in 2019 + leaky gut = 30

Your search results may vary as new studies are coming online all the time. The sheer number of results and the rapid pace that new studies are being done should suggest that this is important research and the results are encouraging. This is a good model for you to research any nutrient.

For consumers, perhaps the biggest challenge is finding a quality product. Anyone familiar with the CBD marketplace is aware of the large amount of companies and products which are not reliable. Numerous sources including FDA has revealed a marketplace full of poor quality, mislabeled and misrepresented products.

One way to find a company that is trustworthy is to look at the companies you find on HealthQuestPodcast.com. +PlusCBD™ Oil from CV Sciences is the industry leader. They are committed to the science and have an integrity that is second to none.
