410 – The Elegance of the Endocannabinoid System (ECS)

Previously, mitochondria have been thought of as the ‘powerhouse of the cell,’ more like an engine. The study represents a ‘theoretical shift’ in how mitochondria are understood to facilitate future discoveries across scientific disciplines. The study indicates that “intelligence” and “consciousness” are tied more to the mitochondrial organelles inside cells than they are to the brain itself.
What we have found is that mitochondria are configurable around DIET and ENVIRONMENT. This is great news because as we learn more, we will learn better ways to optimize the performance of mitochondria, create more of them, and functionally access and optimize mitochondria using safe natural processes.

407 – What You Need to Know about Hemp CBD Regulation

I have been interested in CBD beginning in 2014. I have followed its evolution into the marketplace. In 45 years as part of the nutritional products industry, I have never witness anything close to the explosion and growth of the hemp and CBD industry. I have done many interviews with experts in the CBD business and these continue to be some of the most downloaded podcasts.

In this interview Asa Waldstein will explain how CBD is regulated and how consumers can identify trustworthy companies and products. Asa describes some of the challenges faced by companies as well.

The challenges are significant. CBD is regulated one way by FDA and states regulate CBD in variety of ways. The quality and potency of CBD products is all over the place with many products being unreliable for numerous reasons. Asa also gives us numerous resources that will help give clarity.

406 – Inflammation is NOT a disease

In this interview, Dr. Russell Jaffe used a phrase that conceptually made a lot of sense in a few words. He said “Inflammation is Repair Deficit.” This simple sounding phrase is a profound statement that leads to seeking how to facilitate repair in the body.

Inflammation is not a disease. It is a result of the body’s attempt to heal. When we use targeted nutrition, we are giving the body the specific nutrients to facilitate repair. Dr. Jaffe’s research has led to our understanding of the role of specific antioxidants for inflammation repair.

“Inflammation is like a smoldering fire that eventually eats through the fiber of our being. Because it affects the connective tissue infrastructure upon which our bodies are built, repair deficits can occur in any part of the body that is stressed, lacking in nutrients, or more exposed to toxins. This makes inflammation an underlying co-morbidity for many ills

404 – Maitake – King of Medicinal Mushrooms

Maitake is a delicious mushroom that promotes a healthy immune system, healthy blood pressure and healthy blood sugar levels. In Japan, it is known as the “King of Mushrooms.” In this interview, Mark will discuss the D Fraction extract from maitake mushroom and the clinical benefits that have been discovered for powerful immune support.
“Maitake is an edible and medicinal mushroom that grows in the northern part of the Temperate Zone in the Northern Hemisphere found in Japan, China, Europe and North America. Wild Maitake can be harvested in September and October. It forms large hands, mainly near the roots of big fagaceous trees such as white oak, beech, and tanbark oak. It grows in persimmon, plum, apricot, Prunus ume and oak trees. It invades the core of these trees. It decomposes lignin and leaves the cellulose, which is the cause of so-called white rot.

403 – Is your water totally pure or only legally pure? Part 2

In this interview with Alfie Lipshultz, President & CEO Aquathin Corp., we are discussing the many types of contaminants and evaluate the various types of water purification systems. There is not one type of water purification methods that works on all types of contaminants. And, of course, no water has all of the contaminants. The Aquathin system uses “Multi-Barrier Technology” integrating three different methods to provide the cleanest and safest water possible. Aquathin water is pure enough to use in laboratory settings.

In order to make an informed decision we need to determine what is the problem and what are the possible solutions. It makes sense to suggest that you want to know the quality of your water source. It may be better than you think or worse. You have to test to know. The more you know the better choice you will make.

402 – Are Your Supplements Really Regulated and How?

Most people who take supplements do not know about DSHEA. Even within the supplement industry many people were not around in the early 1990s or don’t remember. In this interview with Asa Waldstein, we will discuss the whys and hows of DSHEA and how dietary supplements are regulated.

In 1991 David Kessler, head of the FDA, said all dietary supplements should be taken off the market pending clinical drug-like trials. Yikes!!! This would make virtually all supplements illegal. This was life or death for the supplement industry. FDA raided, with guns drawn, the office of Dr. Jonathan Wright. This became not only an assault on dietary supplements but on alternative health care providers as well. Supplement use was being criminalized.

The shockwave was enormous and galvanized a grassroots movement that led to the law that gave respect and legitimacy to supplements and alternative health. The past 27 years have been good overall but not without controversy and the need for oversight. This was very real and and serious time for the supplement industry, for alternative health providers, and most significantly the customers.
